Reminisce: Ken Boothe & Dawn Penn


I just had another moment reflecting on those childhood days when the neighborhood djs would play some CLASSIC REGGAE! I would be inadvertently absorbing the melodies and words of these songs even if I wasn’t listening. A cut like this one from Ken Boothe (aka Mr Rock Steady), would most likely be on rotation on a Sunday evening in that 4pm to 8pm slot, when most people are home from church gettin ready to eat Sunday dinner lol.

That was originally performed by David Gates and covered by Boothe, like most early rock steady and reggae artist did. Also this next joint with Dawn Penn…

Then it was remixed to a more mainstream version that hit big internationally…
